Music News Today| Is Country Star Garth Brooks A Sell Out?

17 November, 2009

No doubt about it, when it comes to concert ticket sales, country music star Garth Brooks is one of the biggest sell-outs in the music business!

In some of the biggest music news today, seats to the first TWENTY Garth Brooks shows at the Wynn Las Vegas resort were entirely sold out in under 5 hours!

Over 141,000 hopeful concert goers received busy signals as the resort was flooded with calls for fans who secured the $125 tickets (plus a $5 service charge and $13 tax) to Brooks out-of-retirement comeback performances. Another 40,000 people waited online at one point to buy tickets.

The big 5-year deal between Wynn Casino and Brooks puts the star back on the stage for 15 weeks each year. Performances at Wynn’s Encore Theatre will seat approximately 1,500 at each show. Beginning December 11, Garth will be at the resort on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of select weeks.

Check out the Wynn Resort website for more information and details about Garth Brooks’ Las Vegas appearances. http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/#entertainment/garth_brooks/

The Outlaw Norah Jones |Thoughtless Music Celeb In Legal Battle Over NYC Home Renovations

16 November, 2009

Music artist Norah Jones is reportedly being sued by her New York City neighbors due to renovations she’s planning to make on her almost-5 million dollar Brooklyn area brownstone.

Protected for its historic19th-century architecture, alteration is legally unauthorized. Reports state that city approval was granted last month to add ten windows to a side brick wall (private contractors are said to have used under-handed tactics to quietly push through the permit request).

Obviously with architecture this old, such a renovation could prove a safety hazard for neighboring residents. Jones apparently believes her celebrity status exempts her from any consideration for neighbors, historic architecture, or reality.

For five million, Norah J. could have easily had a place built just about anywhere she pleased. Purchasing the brownstone was apparently done in some odd attempt to bolster her decreasing celebrity and involve her name in controversial news.

Couldn’t she just have gone into rehab or had an affair with Lindsey Lohan?

19 Year Old Taylor Swift |Youngest Winner Ever Of CMA Entertainer Of The Year!

13 November, 2009

Taylor Swift, at age 19, is the youngest person ever to win the CMA (country music awards) 'entertainer of the year' award. While some people -- Winona Judd -- might think she's too young to deserve the accolade, those bitter folks should take into consideration how long Taylor's already been at this.

It's not like this is Taylor's first rodeo. Her name's been a household word for several years in any home that appreciates country music. She's been writing and performing since childhood.

She didn't wake up last Christmas, suddenly think, 'Gosh, I think I'll become famous now' write one song and become an overnight sensation.

Talent is talent. And Taylor has worked hard to acheive the success she's already seen in her young life. There's no reason to discount anyone's acheivements just because that successful person might be younger, older, thinner or taller than you are.

So, many heartfelt congratulations to Taylor! Let's hope she didn't let old Ms. Judd's sourgrapes detract from the excitement she should be experiencing right now. (And a special thank you to Kanye West for skipping the CMA awards last evening).

Today's Teen Music Stars Don't Have To Use Sex To Sell Albums

11 November, 2009

Are teen idols taking a more wholesome turn? When we compare Britney Spears’ teen idol years in the '90s to the most famous young female music stars of today, namely Miley Cyrus (aka ‘Hannah Montana’) and Taylor Swift, it’s obvious that the girls today aren’t as reliant on sex appeal.

Maybe parents and managers took a close look at the side effects of Britney’s inappropriate marketing and decided a few quick dollars (likely to be siphoned off by a poor choice of a spouse soon enough) were not worth the long term negative impact to their clients.

Possibly, too, public backlash forced a slight shift in the trend. Not every parent is on board with their little girl looking like she works in a nightclub.

Talent can produce good music. Packaged with a cute appearance and honest, down to earth persona, real artists are just as marketable as those dressed in hoochie attire.

Whitest Kids You Know | Best Christian Music Of All Time

10 November, 2009

Fans of the comedy troupe ‘Whitest Kids You Know’ might not realize that the guys are to be highly praised for their remarkable Christian music.

The evidence is undeniable. Take a closer look at some of the lyrics in their Dino Rap song, sung by the entertaining and always-inspirational Trevor Moore; I smoke a joint tonight, I smoke a joint tonight. Me and all these dinosaurs are blazin blunts tonight. We blazin blunts tonight, We blazin blunts tonight. Me and all these dinosaurs is on a hunt tonight.

I know, now it’s immediately obvious that the Whitest Kids hold a view of evolution that entirely concurs with the opinions of most on the far religious right. The folks who would depict dinosaurs roaming the earth, saddled with Adam and Eve on their backs (maybe; was Eve allowed to ride the dinosaurs, too?) see history with a highly similar perspective.

While the Christian Coalition might not have been partaking in the same recreational venues as their WKUK friends, they all enjoyed some kind of fun with the now extinct dinos. Isn’t it great how music can bring out the similarities in even the most seemingly diverse groups?
