Owl City Is A Hoot. Swoop In On Some Cool New Music!

16 October, 2009

Owl City, aka Adam Young, is heading out to the west coast for tonight’s Seattle concert, with fans excitedly anticipating his arrival. The rising star started out far from the water’s edge, though his fledgling album, "Ocean Eyes" is making waves with listeners everywhere.

Young, just 23, recorded his entire first album economically in the basement of his parents' Minnesota home. Growing up in the small city of Owatonna (it’s about an hour south of Minneapolis) he says he “…wrote songs about places [he’d] never been, because [he'd] never been there."

He’s certainly going places now! It’s been a big, fast leap for Owl City from his folks’ Owatonna basement up the music charts. His dreamy upbeat music and electronic fantasy pop songs earned their first fans on MySpace, selling over 100,000 single downloads on iTunes, then quickly evolving into a nice commercial deal with a contract from Universal Records (the same label that’s signed Taylor Swift). It’s a dream come true for the former community college student who once earned his cash with a dead-end stint at soda bottling factory.

In a life-affirming twist of fate, his breakout album "Ocean Eyes" has sold nearly 100,000 copies since hitting the market in late July. Owl City songs continue up the Top 40 and alt music charts, with the video for his hit "Fireflies" drawing in fans from VH1 and MTV.

Young is upfront about his strong Baptist faith, though he doesn’t define his music entirely in the Christian genre. No matter what category you put him in, Owl City’s uplifting music is drenched in serious talent – a blessing to listeners from coast to coast.

Country Superstar Garth Brooks Takes A Break From Retirement

15 October, 2009

We have some BIG country music news out of Nashville this morning! Garth Brooks confirmed the rumors that he really is coming out of retirement for a new show in Las Vegas.

Superstar Brooks, now 47, held a news conference in Nashville, talking about his enthusiasm for shaking off the shackles or retirement. Brooks retired nine years ago, in 2000, in order to spend more time with his family in Oklahoma. A father of three, Brooks has been married to Trisha Yearwood since 2005.

His adoring public hasn’t seen too much of him since he bowed out of the spotlight in 2000. An occasional TV appearance or special spot at charity events have been the country star’s only public performances. He was recognized in 2007 with a recording industry award after surpassing Elvis Presley as the top-selling U.S. solo artist.

A big fan of touring, Garth expressed an interest in returning to the road once the kids are raised. An exact date for the upcoming Vegas show has not yet been announced, but stay tuned. We should soon get all the anticipated details.

Top 4 And More. Current Favorites For Pop And Country

14 October, 2009

Top pop music honors for this week go to former American Idol contestant, Chris Daughtry. His song No Surprise is no surprise at number one. Rob Thomas takes the number two spot with his solo hit, Her Diamonds. Thomas keeps knocking out the catchy fan favorites even without his Matchbox 20 crew. Taking the 3rd place honors: Plain White T's and their song 1,2,3,4. Number 4 in the contemporay pop genre? Never Say Never from Fray.

Billy Currington tops the country charts with his hit People Are Crazy. Luckily for Billy, they're sane enough to put his tune in the number one spot! Sans his Hootie entourage, Darius Rucker continues his successful switch into country with the upbeat song Alright. Lady Antebellum stays on the charts with I Run To You, which has been in the top 10 for several weeks running. Rounding out country's top 4 is AMA-nominee Taylor Swift with her possessive You Belong To Me, a song whose subject stays in line with Swift's traditional other-girl's-guy topic. You'd think with all that ingenue beauty and rising fame, she could look for a boy of her own.
