Whitney Houston’s chart topping new album is all over the headlines. We're hearing about her comeback on TV, the radio and online. Houston has come through many things since she first shot to stardom.
I remember her as this gorgeous model who could out sing any diva in the industry. After her marriage to Bobby Brown, her life became just one more drama-filled gossip fest.
I listened to I Look to You and though I wasn’t super impressed, I am impressed at her resiliency. I’m not ready to recommend this new album, but I do send her kudos for getting back into the game. Here’s hoping she’s able to stay there this time.
While reading through entertainment news, I came across three different articles, one after another, about how Tyra Banks was going to show her REAL HAIR on national television. The reveal took place on her program yesterday, Tuesday September 8.
All I could think was, “are you kidding me?” I realize that Banks’ show is all about beauty and image and her viewers are interested in all things related to those topics, but is that really headline worthy? Is her hair a big enough draw to keep the ratings up? What has happened to a discerning audience that demands quality entertainment? Of course, I’m blogging about it, so maybe the joke is on me.
Are the Bee Gees getting back together? Apparently, the two surviving brothers of the famous disco trio are talking about it.
In 2010 they will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of their group performing together. Stars these days just keep going and going and going. The brothers Gibb have discussed the idea of a tour and there's some talk of televised specials. After seeing a recent picture of Barry and Robin, I am wondering if performing live is the best idea. Will one of them fall off a stage a la Steven Tyler? Or throw out a hip trying some fancy disco move? Or maybe – just maybe – they’re still “staying alive.”
Go ahead and sing along. You know you want to.
Singer Kelly Clarkson is battling her recording label ...again. Her song Already Gone has the same backing track as a song by Beyonce. Clarkson claims she demanded it be changed or the song not be released, but the label did it anyway.
Maybe after her last battle, Clarkson’s done playing nice. I believe if she were allowed to go the direction she wants, a little grittier and edgier, she’d shed her pop princess persona and become the musician she’s capable of being. I give her a cyber high five for her guts and hope she gets the chance to shed that label, and that image, for good.
Hearing Jay-Z discussing his reaction to the tragic events of 9/11 brought me back to that day myself. When Jay-Z said, “What happens here? What happens tomorrow? How will this continue?” he expressed what most Americans were feeling at the time. Now, 8 years later, he is releasing his newest album at a concert on the anniversary of that day. The proceeds will go to two funds that help take care of the families left behind. What happens tomorrow? How will this continue? Jay-Z, I think you just answered your questions in a very good way.
