The Wall - Roger Waters Set To Take Epic Pink Floyd Album On The Road

16 April, 2010

I remember the day Pink Floyd’s The Wall came out. I was in middle school and it was practically a holiday. By lunchtime “Another Brick in the Wall” was on every rock radio station in town, and by dinner time we all had at least cassette tape copies of what would become one of the biggest selling records of all time.

Waters, who was the primary songwriter for Pink Floyd, did a ten-year anniversary of The Wall live in 1990 in Germany to celebrate fall of the Berlin Wall. Twenty years later he’s set to roll out a 35-date tour that will get underway on September 15th in Toronto, Canada at the Air Canada Centre.

New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia will get two shows each. The concert tour will run through December 13th where it will wrap in Anaheim, California. Along the way Waters will stop in Washington, DC, Detroit, Kansas City, Tampa, Atlanta, Phoenix, and several other US cities. In addition to Toronto, Canadian concert-goers can catch the performance in Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver.

I think I’ll try to make my way to one of three stops: Denver on November 23rd, Las Vegas on November 26th, or Phoenix on November 27th. Stay tuned for details of my trip!

Cotton Gets A Re-Write - Colbie Caillat & Leona Lewis Re-Write Cotton Jingle

12 April, 2010

I remember, for some reason, when the cotton industry came out with their “The Fabric of Our Lives” jingle on television back in 1989. It was a massively successful advertising campaign, and twenty-years later is getting a modern re-write.

Everyone can hum the cotton jingle without giving it that much thought. That should come as no surprise considering it’s been consistently a part of the cotton industry’s television ad campaign for more than 20 years now. Well, what would you say if I told you it’s getting an awesome re-write by two huge stars?

A generation later, Colbie Caillat and Leona Lewis, not only have re-written the classic jingle, they will also star in the new commercials. Both pop stars are known for their eco-friendly and fashionable styles, which made choosing them an easily selection for Cotton, Incorporated.

Each pop star got to write and sing their own original jingle for the new commercials, and did so in their home towns. The commercials are uniquely their own, which should serve to turn these two household names into global superstars.

Lollapalooza Lineup Set - Lady Gaga, Soundgarden, & Green Day Headline Lollapalooza

9 April, 2010

Where you gonna be August 6th- 8th? If ya don’t know, then booking those three days in Chicago could have you doing some hard rocking at Lollapalooza festival.

The organizers of Lollapalooza have announced the lineup for the 2010 festival. Headliners include Lada Gaga, Soundgarden (reunited at last), Green Day, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, and Phoenix. More than 130 bands will perform at the three-day festival in Grant Park, home to many concert series and festivals.

It is widely rumored that Lady Gaga, the most sought after pop star on the planet, will bring her Monster Ball performance to her largest audience to date. Expect massive crowds this year, due in large part to the Lady’s presence. In the pop world, it’s the event to attend if Lady Gaga is set to perform.

Chris Cornell and the rest of Soundgarden reunite and perform their first gig together since they split in 1997. Other notable bands to perform will be Social Distortion, Cypress Hill, Erykah Badu, Jimmy Cliff, Devo, Wolfmother, AFI, and the Blues Traveler.

McCartney Marathon -Performing Like He's 27 Again

5 April, 2010

Solve: If Paul McCartney started his first song at the Hollywood Bowl at 8:00PM, and 26.2 miles away the starters gun sounded the beginning of a marathon filled with world class runners, who would finish first, bearing in mind that neither will be allowed to use any form of public transportation?

Okay, I threw that last bit in there to throw you off. The answer is, the world class marathon runners would finish with enough time to enter the Hollywood Bowl, take a quick shower, buy a beer, find a seat, and still catch the last half-hour of McCartney’s marathon performance.

That’s exactly what took place last week at the Hollywood Bowl. Paul McCartney, 67, played a 2 hour and 45 minute set, and had the audience convinced he was back in his Beatles prime of age 27. McCartney, who played the Hollywood Bowl in 1964 and 1965 as a member of the Beatles, told the crowd that the first time he came to the venue he was just a little kid.

Beatles sets back then lasted somewhere around a half hour and included 12 songs. McCartney’s set last Tuesday consisted of 38 songs, 22 of which were Beatles tunes. His encore – four songs – included three Beatles songs.

McCartney has promised more US tour dates, but as of this writing none are scheduled. I’ll keep you informed on any pending developments. After all, his Hollywood Bowl set right now is being considered the best set list ever by the mega-musician, and there simply no reason to miss seeing him if he’s anywhere within 200 miles from home!

Ricky Martin - Ricky Martin Outs Himself As Gay

1 April, 2010

In a bet that no one would lose, pop sensation Ricky Martin came out to the world as a gay man. In other spectacular news, the sky has announced once and for all that it’s blue. Shocking, I know. What’s next, green grass?

Why is it that some people are the last to know certain things about themselves, even a really big thing like their sexuality? So, good for Ricky Martin for getting that off his chest, which he obviously really needed to do. In a concise statement Ricky posted the following on his website: “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.

I, like so many others, haven’t the faintest issue with any of this, but it does beg the question, “What took you so long, man?” Oh, and rumor has it he’ll be following up this earth shattering announcement with news that yes, he’s also Puerto Rican by birth and by heritage.
